Voting will close on Wednesday, October 29th at Midnight.
Sailors will vote for Junior Board candidates, for the Tailleur McGreevy Perpetual Award, and for the SDYC Coach of the Year.
VOTING ELIGIBILITY
Junior Board elections are for the JUNIORS ONLY.
Parents/adults are NOT allowed to vote in this election. Votes submitted by parents/adults will be deleted.
Junior Board voting is reserved for SDYC members who have participated in the Junior Program during the last year or have sailed under the SDYC burgee in the last year.
Non-Members who have participated in at least two seasonal SDYC Junior Racing programs may also vote using the member number "NMR".
ELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates must receive a majority (50% +1) of votes to win.
Positions with three or more candidates will be conducted using a "Ranked-Choice" voting system. Voters will rank candidates in order of their preference as indicated on the ballot. The candidates names will be displayed in a random order on each ballot. This will be simple for voters on their ballot. This is a bit more complicated when we start counting votes.
Ranked Choice Vote Counting, Round One: If one candidate receives over 50% of first preference votes, they will automatically win their election.
Ranked Choice Rounds Two or More: If no candidate receives over 50% of first preference votes, then the candidate with the lowest number of "1st Choice" votes will be removed. Voters who chose the removed candidate will have their vote reallocated to their "2nd Choice" candidate and the totals will be recalculated. This process will continue until one candidate receives over 50% of the votes.
Why are we using this process? We have too many great candidates to pick just one! This is an election amongst friends and teammates, so we want everyone to be positive and supportive. This process encourages more positive campaigning; if you aren't someone's first choice candidate, you still want to be respectful and positive so they might chose you as their second choice! Every vote counts!
