Event Information

This will be a multi-level 29er clinic. For advanced teams, the focus will be on boat handling, boat speed and starts to get ready for upcoming regattas. For development teams, the focus will be on building skills in the 29er.

COACHES:

Antoine Screve won Silver and Bronze medals at the Youth Worlds and 2x gold medals at the US Youth Champs in the 29er. He later sailed for Stanford University and has been coaching youth sailors for 10 years.

Phil Muller is the Youth Performance Manager for US Sailing and serves as the head coach for Team USA at the Youth Sailing World Championships. Muller was the founder of the 2NINER high performance sailing team based out of Miami and the Skiff Generation regatta series. Phil was named US Sailing Development Coach of the Year in 2020. Phil’s coaching philosophy is to make "practice days as hard as possible, so regatta days are easy. We use training methods that focus on a growth mindset, rather than everything being based on results.”

Ian Nyenhuis has sailed the 29er for 8 years competing both nationally and internationally. Ian represented the USA at two Youth Sailing World Championships winning a bronze medal in 2021. The same year, he also placed 4th at the 29er World Open Championships out of over 190 boats from 30 countries.

Clinic cost is $200/sailor. Late fee of $50 after February 1st, 5:00 PM.

For sailors with a 29er:

You may register with a teammate or you can register solo and be paired with a teammate by the coaches. Please note that both sailors on a team need to register.

HPYS charter boats:

A limited number of HPYS charter boats are available at a cost of $75/sailor plus damage deposit. For teams using an HPYS loaner boat: any SDYC member who pays by club charge, we reserve the right to charge your member account a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage. For those paying by credit card, we reserve the right to re-charge your card a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage.

Safety

It is recommended that sailors wear a wetsuit and booties. Crews should have properly fitting trapeze harnesses. All sailors will need to wear a rash guard or pinnie over their trapeze harness and lifejacket to ensure that buckles are covered. A Fox40 whistle must be attached to your lifejacket.
