Thank you for expressing your interest in joining SDYC's Dick Sweet Team for the 2025 series! This regatta series includes three events at Long Beach Yacht Club on July 7th, Newport Harbor Yacht Club on July 14th, and San Diego Yacht Club on July 21st. Over nearly 40 years, SDYC has sent talented teams to compete in this series with the top sabot racers from clubs across SoCal, winning the overall series 17 times - more than any other club.  Submit your application for the opportunity to defend the championship title for SDYC!

 

We are looking for active Sabot racers in the upper fleets who are motivated to learn more about team racing, are committed to practicing, and are supportive teammates. There are 8 spots available across two teams (SDYC Red and SDYC Blue), with 3 starting sailors and an alternate on each team.

 

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be Sabot C1 or higher.
• Must be an active Sabot racer with SDYC for at least one year.
• Must be able to attend all scheduled practices and all three regattas.

Selection Criteria: 

• Team race experience. (5 points)
• Regatta results between June 2024 and May 2025. (15 points)
• Consistent attendance and participation in SDYC Sabot Race Team programing. (10 points)
• Applicant submitted written responses. (5 points each, 10 points total)
• Jr Program Staff discretion based on observed behavior, sportsmanship, teamwork, and team dynamics.   

Applications will be reviewed and graded by the SDYC Junior Sailing Coaching Staff as they are received. Specific teams will be assigned based on sailing and behavior observed during practices, with the goal of building skilled teams that have effective communication and positive team dynamics.
