Summer Coach in Training Application Deadline

Coach in Training volunteer roles are a great way to build valuable working experience that will help set you up for success as a Junior Instructor, all while giving back to the Junior Sailing Program at SDYC. Coaches in Training (CIT) will work alongside our team of instructors in our morning classes where they will learn about the fundamentals of coaching and other functions that are essential to running a successful class.
Daily Schedule:
- 8:00AM Report Time in the Jessop Classroom
- 8:00AM – 8:20AM: Daily Junior Program Staff Meetings
- 8:20AM: Equipment preparations
- 8:30 AM: Classes Begin
- 12:00PM: Class Dismissal & Pack Up
- Lunches provided by SDYC.
CIT Responsibilities:
- Participating in daily staff meetings
- Assisting Jr Program Staff with instruction during classes, on and off the water. Some of these tasks include:
- Participating in chalk-talks.
- Participating in games with the sailors.
- Helping launch sailboats for practice
- Helping provide instruction on the water while riding along in a coach boat.
- Sailing during classes to provide demonstrations to students.
- Assisting in daily equipment preparations for classes, which may include rigging CFJs, flipping club sabots, stocking coach boats with keys and marks, and reporting any equipment issues.
- Assisting in daily pack-up tasks, including de-rigging boats, returning sabot gear to the workshop, and reporting issues.
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a safe, fun, and educational environment.
