29er Coaches:
Jon Rogers is the Head Coach at SDYC. He is a multi-time World and National sailing champion who has coached professionally for Coronado Yacht Club, JWorld, NorthU, US Sailing and CISA. He has trained many champion 29er sailors since the late 90’s including Paris Henken, Hans Henken, Riley Gibbs, Quinn and Dane Wilson, Judge Ryan, Cooper Dressler, Helena Scutt and many more.
Dane Wilson is an accomplished 49er sailor, former US National Champion and top US 49er team in 2020. Dane competed twice in the Youth Worlds in the 29er and is an accomplished foiling kiter.
Laser Coaches:
Chris Barnard has been a member of the US Sailing Team for the past eight years, competing and winning at the highest level in the international laser class including the Gold Medal in 2019 at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia regatta against a 187-boat laser fleet. Chris grew up sailing sabots in Newport Beach and attended Georgetown University where he led his team to a Co-Ed National Championship, received three Collegiate All-American honors, and was the 2012 Collegiate Sailor of the Year. Chris has recently been coaching the next generation of youth laser talent for US Sailing’s Olympic Development Program.
Schedule:
Saturday 10AM - 6PM (debrief in Jessop Room with Pizza)
Sunday: 10AM - 5PM
Entry Fee: $200/Sailor. Additional fee of $100 for applying for use of an HPYS loaner 29er. $50 Late fee after December 10th.

In the 29er classes, sailors are expected to list their teammate’s name on the registration form but both skipper and crew must register separately.
All single-handed sailors should plan to sail with a Radial (ILCA 6) rig. However, if it’s windy, the coaches may allow some sailors to use the 4.7.
Bring your own boat except there are a limited number of HPYS loaner 29ers.
For those sailors wanting to use an HPYS loaner 29er, these applications will be initially be “pending" to give the organizers time to ensure sufficient loaner boats. We may not be able to admit every applicant and will let sailors know if they have been accepted as soon as possible after the application deadline.
Venue: We will be sailing from SDYC out to the ocean off Point Loma.
Gear: Be prepared to be on the water sailing for 4 to 5 hours each day. Bring appropriate gear, dry bags with extra gear and plenty of quick, healthy snacks and drinks to keep you going! Bring a mask for indoor debriefs in the Jessop Room.
