COACHES:
Maru Urban was named the 2021 Sail1Design Coach of the Year and coached with the US Olympic & Paralympic Team at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Maru ran a very successful laser program as the Head Coach at Key Biscayne Yacht Club.
Doug Hart is a very experienced coach who has coached ILCAs, High School teams and Snipe sailors from beginner to Olympic Development. Doug has won the Snipe Nationals and the Snipe North Americans multiple times and been on the podium in a variety of classes at the national and international level and won a silver medal in the ’84 Pan Am Games in Windsurfing. Doug is a former All-American at the US Naval Academy.
Parker Mitchell, a dedicated professional at Quantum Sails, successfully managed Bloodhound racing amidst the challenges of Covid. Accomplished in coaching, three of his sailors earned a spot on the Olympic development team. He hold the title of College All-American and boast extensive experience as a LISOT coach for i420/c420. With 15 years of professional sailboat racing, his focus has been on the Star boat and Etchells, gearing up for the upcoming world championships. Raised in LA/SD, his roots contribute to a rich sailing background.
We will hire additional coaches as needed to provide appropriate instruction at a ratio of 10 sailors to at least 1 coach.
Clinic cost is $200. The clinic organizers may be able to arrange a limited number of charter boats at a cost of $150/weekend on a first come/first serve basis. Sailors may sign up for only one day at the cost of $100/per day.
Schedule: Be rigged and ready each day for a 10AM meeting. We’ll be off the water by 5PM on Saturday and 4PM on Sunday.
There will be pizza on Saturday during the post-sailing debrief.
Venue: SDYC
Gear: Be prepared to be on the water sailing for 4 to 5 hours. Bring appropriate sailing gear for water temps in the low 60s and a dry bag with any extra gear and plenty of water and quick, healthy snacks to keep you going!
