SDYC

This will be a multi-level 29er clinic. For advanced teams, the focus will be on boat handling, boat speed and starts to get you ready for summer regattas. For development teams, the focus will be on building skills in the 29er.

COACHES:

Giselle Camet Nyenhuis has competed in the 1992 Olympics, won the Youth World Sailing Championships, won Silver at the Women’s Laser Radial World Championships twice, and has won five US Sailing National Championships. She’s coached sailors at world championships, as well as local clinics, such as CISA and HPYS.

Noah Nyenhuis is an accomplished skiff sailor who has twice represented the United States at the World Sailing Youth World Championships and won the Bronze medal in 2021. Noah and his brother Ian also finished 4th in the Open World Championships (out of 189 teams) and recently they competed in the US Olympic Trials in the 49er. Noah is an excellent skiff coach for sailors of all levels from novice to advanced with an excellent ability to articulate the nuances of boat handling and sail trim. Noah is studying Mechanical Engineering at SDSU.

Peter Joslin grew up sailing at SDYC and went through the junior program from sabots to 29ers and high school sailing. He sailed 29ers for 7 years with a few different partners and has won as both a skipper and crew. Peter has won two National Championships in the 29er and placed eighth with Anton Schmid at the 29er Open World Championships in 2021. Peter attends Boston College and races on their varsity sailing team.

For sailors with a 29er:

You may register with a teammate or you can register solo and be paired with a teammate by the coaches. Please note that both sailors need to register.

For sailors needing use of an HPYS loaner boat:

You must register for the clinic individually but can put on the registration form if you have a preferred teammate. All these applications will be initially listed as “pending" to give the organizers time to ensure sufficient loaner boats and coaches. We may not be able to admit every applicant and will let sailors know if they have been accepted as soon as possible after the application deadline.

Clinic cost is $200/sailor. Late fee of $50 after June 1st, 5:00 PM. Additional fee of $75/sailor for use of an HPYS loaner boat plus damage deposit.

Damage Deposit for teams using an HPYS loaner boat: any SDYC member who pays by club charge, we reserve the right to charge your member account a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage. For those paying by credit card, we reserve the right to re-charge your card a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage.

Safety: It is recommended that sailors wear a wetsuit and booties. Crews should have properly fitting trapeze harnesses. All sailors will need to wear a rash guard or pinnie over their trapeze harness and lifejacket to ensure that buckles are covered. A Fox40 whistle must be attached to your lifejacket.
