Everything you need to know for a successful day on Race Committee

Looking to help out with Junior events? Prepping for the J/22 Beer Cans? Or looking to give back to the sport you love? Join us for this hands-on Race Committee 101 class. We’ll go through all the steps: from locating gear to scoring - and everything in between. This class is free, includes lunch, and will prep you for helping out on the water with events from C3 Sabots in the La Playa basin to a World Championships offshore.

 

Small 20-25 minutes breakout sessions will include:

  • Signal boat 101 – Everything you need to know about flags, placards, note taking, and timing for larger events. Groups will run a sample starting sequence together from Corinthian
  • Markset boat 101 – Tips and tricks for: selecting marks and tackle, rigging, getting marks to stick to the bottom and sit upright, pulling them up easily, and moving them around in a hurry
  • Hands-on SDYC RC electronics –Learn the basics of the RC’s GPS and Radio systems. Enter waypoints in our B&Gs so you can drive to the appropriate spot, learn about the Wind Plot feature, get trained on our private channel radios, etc
  • La Playa 1 Signal boat- Streamlined for simplicity, learn some tips and tricks for running 3-minute starts for dinghies, auto horns, communications with sailors, where to find gear, scorekeeping, etc
  • La Playa 2 Markset – Setting a W/L course without instruments (hand bearing compass, line of sight, recommended course/line lengths) and tips for how to handle the tricky La Playa Wind Monster!
