The Southern California Youth Yacht Racing Association (SCYYRA) organizes Club racing in a variety of series, which are a perfect steps for sailors looking beyond Sabot or High School racing. Club racing expands the high school experience, as sailors register as a skipper/crew team, and sail all races in a boat they’ve prepared, with no race to race rotations. Racing is on longer ocean courses, emphasizing new skills beyond the typical short-course high school sprints.
The SCYYRA Shadden Series for CFJs is the perfect place to start, adding spinnaker technique, and allowing newer Club racers to try ocean sailing in a familiar boat. This clinic will develop the necessary skills for sailors to participate in 2017/2018 SCYYRA Shadden Series #3, hosted by SDYC on January 13, 2018, and is limited to 8 boats and 16 sailors.
