Established as a qualifier for the 1st Women’s Winter Invitational Regatta held in 2018, the Fall Classic Regatta still seems the best way to assemble the most enthusiastic female sailors in the area and find the best of the bunch to represent SDYC for the Winter Invitational - turns out it has been a lot of fun and we have kept up the tradition of giving just the ladies a day to race around La Playa. SDYC’s J/22 Fleet is the perfect vehicle to deliver an afternoon of fun racing and the rotations off of E Dock will give people the best seats in the house to watch the racing and catch up with friends. Women of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to form teams or come on their own to hop onto a boat and sail a race or two with SDYC Staff Commodore Jerelyn Biehl or Director Allison Bell. The courses will be short and can be won by novices and advanced sailors alike; with the shifty winds and wild card puffs, each race will be anyone’s game.
Sail With a Commodore is like sitting in the passenger seat while a pro drives you around a racetrack. If you’ve always wanted to race a sailboat but never knew how to go about doing it, S/C Biehl and Director Bell are providing the boats and the knowledge so that you can experience what all the fuss is about. Their years of impressive results will serve to you welcome you to racing at a fairly high level and will hopefully switch you onto racing more – all you need to do is sign up and show up for a few hours of Sunday fun at the Fall Classic.
