The 2016 C420 North Americans were held at Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club August 18-21, which presented a great opportunity to compete in my first ever major championship. Not only was this my first major championship, but it also was the first time I sailed the C420 in a windy venue.

The U.S. Team Race Championship started Friday August 19th at Sheboygan Yacht Club in Wisconsin. Eleven of the best Team Racing teams in the country were selected by resume to compete in the prestigious event. This year, I teamed up with a group of All Americans from Boston College to try and defend our title at the event.

This years Leiter Cup was full of lasting memories. This regatta has always been my favorite because all the girls form a special connection. At the Ida Lewis Regatta, the same format but in C420s, everyone has their crew or skipper to talk to which does not necessarily make for the best bonding of the girls

The 2016 Club 420 Association North Americans finished today hosted by Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club with the Club 420 Class Association. Thirty-five boats competed in the regatta held on the open waters of the Pacific Ocean near the yacht club. This was also the culmination of the Triple Crown series and determined the winners.

In July of 2016 I raced in the Laser North Americans that was held at the Gorge in Cascade Locks, Oregon. The First day we split into two fleets because of the large number of boats sailing. I started out in the blue fleet with about 40 boats on the first day.

This past July, my crew Tanner and I traveled to Cape Cod to compete in the Club 420 Nationals. The regatta was held at Falmouth Yacht Club, an excellent racing venue. We arrived at the yacht club the day before to find perfect sailing conditions.

San Diego born Mark Reynolds grew up sailing Stars since the age of four, eventually becoming an SDYC Junior Sailor and instructor. After attending San Diego State University where he was an All-American in 1974, Mark competed in the ’88, ’92, ’96 and ’00 Olympics, winning gold medals in ’92 and ’00 and a silver medal in ’88. In addition to winning several other Star World Championships, Mark also won the 1979 Pan American Games in the Snipe Class.

Paris Henken isn’t your average laidback 20-year-old from Coronado, CA. In February 2016, Paris and her sailing partner, Helena Scutt, qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in the 49erFX. Though having spent the majority of her childhood at Coronado YC, Paris is now a Junior SDYC Member and a past SDYC Summer Program Instructor, having won SDYC Outstanding Female Sailor of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
