Richard and Paul Didham spent late December at Coral Reef Yacht Club on Biscayne Bay for the 2012 Orange Bowl. Sailing in the Laser fleet, Richard was able to place in the top 10 in multiplte races and finish 10th overall, while Paul sailed radials despite battling a fever.

SDYC was represented at the Orange Bowl regatta by Will La Dow and Scott Sinks, both who provided regatta recaps from their experience sailing in Florida.

San Diego and its yacht clubs are fertile ground for sailing champions, but rarely do they get the chance to join the big leagues as early as Jake La Dow and Jake Reynolds, two 19-year-old SDYC competitors selected to sail for the U.S. at the first Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.

The three race Hot Rum series came to a close on the first day of December with Scot Tempesta on his Flying Tiger 10m “Anarchy” finishing on top of the 130 boat fleet.  Competitors enjoyed sunny and warm  ‘winter’ sailing conditions around the 11.9 miles random leg, pursuit race course located off Point Loma.

ORACLE TEAM USA announced two U.S.-based teams to earn a spot in the final of the Red Bull Youth America's Cup. Three of SDYC's college sailors, Nevin Snow, Jake La Dow, and Jake Reynolds have been selected as sailors on one of the teams.

I was lucky enough to be able to travel to one of the best sailing venues in the world and compete in the 2012 ISSA Singlehanded Championships that could not have provided better sailing conditions.
