70+ Boats Compete on New Years Day in San Diego Bay

By | January 11, 2016

2016 New Year's Day landed in between stormy weather systems rolling down the coast and offered up refreshing sunny weather with scattered clouds. The wind forecasts were all over the place, with a light westerly breeze 5 kts to 7 kts showing itself around noon, just in time for a 1230 warning signal. A total of 92 boats registered for the regatta (Zero entry fee! What’s to lose?), with 72 boats braving the light air and sailing the course. With the light air, the boats in six different classes were sent on varying course lengths from 10 miles for the Class 1 boats, 7 miles for Class 2 boats and 5 miles for the smaller Class 3, 4, and 5 boats. Multihulls and dinghies made up Class 6 and also sailed the 5 mile course. Congratulations to the class winners and Happy New Year.
