The Marlin Club of San Diego held its annual Spring Shootout tournament on Saturday, May 18. Several boats from SDYC among other clubs competed. Team Tres Burros of SDYC, led by Captain Rob Pennell and Co-Captain//Executive Chef Ben Murphey, left the dock Friday afternoon to search for fish before the midnight “lines in” time. After thoroughly scanning the 60 Mile Bank without seeing any sign of fish (and enjoying a delicious steak dinner) the team decided to pivot and make a 35 mile run to an area near the 1010 Trench, which is approximately 70 miles south of Point Loma.
We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2024 INSA Junior Sabot Nationals, which will be held at San Diego Yacht Club July 29 through August 1! Make sure to register online before 1700 on June 14 to avoid late entry fees.
For the first time since 1962, the INSA Junior Sabot Nationals is returning to SDYC, making it an unprecedented event in the modern history of the Junior Sabot Nationals. The 2024 Etchells West Coast Spring Series, hosted by the San Diego Yacht Club, concluded with the Orca Bowl this past weekend. The series, comprising four prestigious regattas—Bill Bennett Cup, Midwinters West, Pacific Coast Championship, and Orca Bowl—showcased the pinnacle of competitive sailing and brought together a vibrant community of sailors from across the country.
The Orca Bowl provided a fitting conclusion to the series, featuring fierce competition and remarkable sailing talent. Entering the last day of the regatta, six boats were vying for the win. The regatta celebrated both Overall and Corinthian achievements, highlighting the best in the sport.

As a blustery weather front cleared Sunday morning to reveal clear blue skies and white caps at sea, sailors on the final day of Yachting Cup were excited to get out on the water in some 'sporty' conditions.
What's Yachting Cup without on the water fierce competition, tasteful strategy, and a hint of chaos? The outside courses on the Coronado Roads gave way to quite the interesting turn of events for some. Though the course was square with light and shifty winds, there was still plenty of energy in the air to create that chaos.
