On August 1st, my skipper Anton and I got the opportunity to travel to Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club, in New Jersey to compete in the 2024 C420 National Championship. When we first arrived at the venue, we were greeted with hot and humid weather and very good breeze. The four practice days were relatively the same, starting out around 8 knots, and then eventually building to a 13-16 knot sea breeze. On the first day of the regatta, we experienced very similar conditions to the practice days, which allowed us to excel, achieving a 1st, and two 4ths. This put us in a very good position to do well in the regatta. The second day was very similar to the first, except that it got windier at the end of the day, which made for some very exciting racing. Going into the last day, we were in 4th place, just a few points out of the lead, and we knew we were definitely still in the hunt. We started off the day strong with a 2nd place finish, but it didn’t go as well in the races after. We didn’t have great starts the next three races, which put us into 8th overall out of 129 boats. We had a super fun time at the regatta, and none of this would have been possible without the help of the SDYC competition fund.
