By Casey Allocco & Jared Wohlgemuth | February 28, 2020
PV Race

Ben Mitchell, co-chair of the Puerto Vallarta Race with wife Karen Busch, joined us on the SDYC Sailcast to talk about the upcoming race.

To begin the conversation, Ben talks about what the race is all about, the amount of boats and different types of boats, and some of the details of the route. He discusses the details of being chair as well as being a competitor in the event, and goes into PV over the years, this year being the largest turnout yet.

Ben reviews the schedule of the weekend, the starts, and the social events that will occur all week. Ben himself will be sailing on Pyewacket. He talks about what he is expecting from the race and describes the Volvo 70. For Pyewacket, the PV is being used as a warm up for the Tahiti Race at the end of May. He compares the two races before mentioning Viva Mexico’s involvement in the race and preparing for The Ocean Race.

The Sailcast concludes with Ben’s lifetime of sailing history, how he got involved, what draws him into sailing, and advice on how to get into offshore sailing.
