Competing in the 2024 Snipe World Championship was an experience I’ll remember for a lifetime. As a sailor representing the United States, along with my crew Shira Golub, we were not only challenged by the competition but inspired by the dedication and sportsmanship of sailors from around the world. The difficulty of the event was no surprise, considering the level of skill within the Snipe Class, known for drawing some of the finest sailors in the world, including past world champions and former Olympians.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this experience was the camaraderie within the U.S. team. The support and solidarity of my fellow U.S. sailors created an atmosphere of unity that carried us through the challenges we faced on the water. I’d especially like to congratulate Ernesto Rodriguez and his crew, Taylor Schauerman, on their impressive 2nd place finish—a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work and the strength of the U.S. Snipe Class.
The Snipe World Championship is undeniably demanding, but it’s also profoundly rewarding. Beyond the competition, it provides a unique opportunity to connect with others who share our passion. Competing against top sailors from countries across the globe allows us to learn from one another and forge connections that transcend the racecourse. These friendships and shared memories have enriched my life and are a testament to the unique spirit of the Snipe Class.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the San Diego Yacht Club’s Competition Fund, its committee members, the SDYC membership, and the board for their invaluable support. Their backing made it possible for Shira and me to compete on an international stage, and it was an honor to represent the San Diego Yacht Club among such accomplished sailors. I’m truly grateful for this incredible opportunity.
Looking forward, I’m excited to serve as Co-Chair with Aimee Heim for the Snipe Class’s next major international event, the Western Hemisphere & Asian Championship, which will be held at SDYC in September 2025. This upcoming championship promises to bring together talented sailors from across the globe, and I am thrilled to help showcase our club’s hospitality and dedication to hosting world class events.
Finally, I look forward to the possibility of competing in both the Western Hemisphere Championship and the 2026 Snipe World Championship in Menorca, Spain. The Snipe Class continues to foster connections and push our abilities, and I am eager to see where this journey will lead in the coming years.
