Team San Diego Yacht Club continued to work with team advisers over the holidays to organize an IC 37 charter for training on the east coast this summer, coaching, training schedules and of course fundraising. Team SDYC also provided a program status update to the SDYC Board of Directors and SDYC Member #1 S/C Malin Burnham in December. The Team brought the Board and S/C Burnham up to date on their progress and planning to capture the Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup in September.
Stay tuned for more updates from Team SDYC as they prepare to represent SDYC in the NYYC Invitational Cup. Keep an eye on upcoming Mainsheet editions, SDYC social media and the website as Team SDYC pursues the world’s premier Corinthian yacht club challenge championship.
However, the big news from Team SDYC this past month… Nick Martin will be tying a knot! That’s right, team member and SDYC Junior Program alumni Nick Martin (SDYC JP Alum tie very good knots) dropped on to one sandy knee on Kauai over the holiday and popped the question to longtime girlfriend and very talented sailor, Tori Porter. The Team has confirmed from several sources she said “yes.”
Huge congrats Nick and Tori and of course the entire Martin and Porter families.
Unsure of the wedding date as of this writing, but it is possible Nick and Tori could be the rare husband and wife duo competing together in the NYYC Invitational Cup come September
The NYYC Invitational Cup rules state if a competing team is sailing with > 7 crew (Team SDYC will have 9 on board) a minimum of two of the crew must be opposite gender.
