CLEVELAND, Ohio (October 9, 2014) - US Sailing's Championship of Champions is recognized as one of the more unique adult racing events in the country. All helmsmen have qualified for this event by winning a 2013 or 2014 one-design class National, North American, or World Championship. Helmsmen and their crew will be tested in Thistles this year on Lake Erie to see if they can hold their own. This championship is held in a different location and in a different class each year.

These skippers and their teams will race for the Jack Brown Trophy while representing their class at the 2014 Championship of Champions, hosted by the Edgewater Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio this Friday, October 10 through Sunday, October 12.

The competition will be challenging with many decorated sailors competing on the same course. Among the competitors at this year’s Championship of Champions is special guest Greg Fisher, one of the most accomplished competitors in United States sailing history. Fisher has captured 21 North American or National Championships in seven different classes including the Lightning, Thistle and Flying Scot over the course of his expansive professional sailing career. He is also a World Champion in the J/22. The former All-American is the Director of Sailing at the College of Charleston.

Several past winners of this championship have returned to take another shot at winning the Jack Brown Trophy. These skippers include Chris Raab (2010), Skip Dieball (2009), and Doug Kaukeinen (2008). Full sailor list with representing classes and hometowns.

Schedule & Race Course

• The scheduled warning signal for the first race each race day is 9:30 am EDT. On Sunday, no Warning Signal will be made after 12:00 pm.
• Racing area is in the open waters of Lake Erie, Northwest of the Cleveland Harbor entrance and North of the Edgewater Yacht Club.
• Course configuration will be windward‐leeward, triangle or a combination of the two.

Scoring Format

• A minimum of four completed races are necessary to constitute a series.
• Twenty races are scheduled. Four races will constitute an official regatta.
• If only five races are completed, no race scores will be excluded. If 6 – 11 races are completed, a boats worst race score will be excluded. If 12 to 20 races are completed, a boats two worst race scores will be excluded.

Prizes on the Line

• US Sailing will provide medals for permanent possession to be awarded to the skipper and crew finishing in the top three positions in the championship.
• The winning team shall receive the Jack Brown Trophy.
