July 2011 Mainsheet PC News

By | July 01, 2011

Hard to believe that I am writing the July article! At the moment, I am watching the rain fall. I was surprised to see we gathered another half inch” in the last 24 hours. We sure can use it and if I listen carefully, I can hear all our garden plants singing and giggling because they are so happy. Might be the cat getting ready to blow a hair ball... but I like the plant story better.

As you read this, the Wooden Boat Festival at Koehler Kraft is behind us. I will give report next month but hope to see one or two PCs on display. As you all must know, the Kettenburg Regatta was held last month and, I am sure, was enjoyed by many.

This month we will enjoy the usual fantastic 4th of July party sponsored by and held at our club! The many members who give so much of their time to make events like this a huge success make our club what it is. A big “thanks” should also go to the SDYC staff who always puts in an extra attempt to make the weekend a success. It is through their efforts what the membership has such a wonderful place on the water to meet and enjoy. While we are all celebrating and having a good time, please take time to remember all the veterans and people presently serving in our Armed Forces. It is largely because of them that we can celebrate not only our independence but our freedoms too! In addition to the 4th party, July 24th will bring the one Design races. We are beginning to see those who will be contenders to wear the crown of the PC Champion this year.

Last month, I received an email from Robbie Childs, who lives in North County. Robbie is the son of A.E. Childs, who sailed his boat in the Hawaii S-Class/PC regatta. Sailing #3, TIAnA, A.E. was one of those who helped the PC grow in popularity. Tiana remained in Hawaii for many years and was lost to the sea during a race there in 1977. Robbie is hoping to join one of us for an afternoon on the water to sail in a PC as did his father. Hopefully this will happen
soon.

The AMSS Yesteryear Regatta was held in May and those who went out to watch the races saw 11 PCs at the line!

Congratulations to #42, Steve Brownsea, for taking first place. It has come to my attention that there are presently 3 PC owners who have decided to sell their boats. I hear that some people are already showing interest, but as of today, all three are available. For those of you who are interested in owning two or three PCs this is your chance. of course, we always welcome newcomers to our group so any reader who has questions should feel free to contact me.

In closing, you will see, included with this article, a great photo taken in 2008. I want to thank Carol McKnight for making a great number of photos available to the fleet! I am taking the liberty of attaching one of the photos she took of Dawn at the 2008 Kettenburg Regatta! old friend Bobby Greiser and CF Koehler sailed with me.

As always, I wish you all a great month of partying and sailing!
