The second of three regattas in the J/105 Fall Series 2012 was the North American Championship, held over 5 days in mid-October. The week leading up to the regatta saw the sailors coming off the SoCal Champs and readying themselves and their boats for the next four days of sailing the NAC regatta. Unfortunately, the lovely weather of the SoCal Champs weekend did not hold for the NAC as Hurricane Paul passed to the south and affected our weather in San Diego, providing challenging conditions for the 25 teams that competed. The first couple of days of sailing saw the typical San Diego steady sea breezes from the WNW replaced with nasty chop and sell with winds from the SSE and SSW, with grey days, followed by more "normal" weather for this time of year, with some rain on Sunday.

Chris Perkins and the crew of Masquerade stood atop the leaderboard from Race 1 to Race 9 on their way to a dominant perfomance in the 2012 J/105 North American Championship at San Diego Yacht Club.  Winners of 2 races, and no finish outside the top 4 landed Masquerade a 14 point victory over second place, Gary Mozer’s Current Obsession 2.

The highlights of the regatta were the post racing festivities that took over the entire yacht club - The Taste of Point Loma and the Surfin' Safari. The Taste of Point Loma saw nearly two dozen local restaurants, wineries, and breweries participate with samples of their specialties. The Club was transformed into a jazzy lounge setting with music to match. The Surfin' Safari was an awesome Beach Luau party with a rockin' band playing SoCal beachy music. Everyone who came to these events had a fantastic time!

Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers that made this regatta success!
