Congratulations to the 2011 Sally Bennet Memorial Trophy winner Danielle Richards. The award was given out at the SDYC Opening Day Ceremony on Sunday, April 17, 2011.
TheSally Bennett Memorial Award is awarded annually to a Junior Sailing Program participant or their parent(s) in recognition of outstanding service to the Junior Program and Club.
Sally Bennett and her family provided guidance and support for the Junior Program for many years, as well as encouraged their own children to become successful sailors. The standards they set are reflected in the previous recipients of this award, including:
This year’s recipient of the Sally Bennett Memorial Award has been contributing to the development of Juniors in many ways, especially in providing guidance regarding information and logistics for sailors and parents about Junior Sailing Regattas regionally and nationally. She also contributes by running Junior Regattas and training events. And now as a Junior Flag Member of our Club, she is providing the organizing leadership for the Junior Flag Committee, to help us develop our capacity as a yacht club to attract and encourage younger members to participate in all aspects of yachting and enjoy our outstanding facilities and programs as they move beyond their Junior years.
