It feels like we should be on a mooring in Catalina, sitting on the hook in La Playa, or lathered up in sunscreen with the Junior Summer Program in full swing… only problem is, it's JANUARY 17th!
Sneak out of the office, blow-off the yard work do whatever you need to do and head down to the Club. Sit back, soak up the rays and enjoy the new all-day dining menu while dining on the deck. Go boating. Sail a J/22. Grab some lunch and take in some awesome 3 on 3 Junior Team Racing Sunday and Monday in La Playa Cove. Watch the football games in the bar with your friends or get out there and sail the One Design Weekend and see how you go against other skilled racers.
They don't make days any nicer than the ones we have had lately. Whatever you do, ride, walk, skip, run, drive or cartwheel through the gates of SDYC this weekend. Just get there!
SDYC – "One Design Yacht Club of the Year"
Speaking of one-design racing, I want to be the first to congratulate our membership; SDYC has won yet another prestigious award. This one from U.S. Sailing, SDYC is the 2013 One-Design Yacht Club of the Year. Our Club will be recognized at the U.S. Sailing Leadership Forum awards dinner February 6th at the Hall of Champions. This U.S. Sailing award recognizes the best yacht club in the United States for administrative excellence, fleet growth, creative programming, regatta support and member contribution at regional, national and international levels of one-design racing.
Hundreds of members contributed both on and off the water to one-design sailing at SDYC in 2013, and this recognition for our great Club is richly deserved. Special thanks (forgive me, I'm missing many) to Junior Staff Commodore Chuck Hope, Director Jerelyn Biehl, John Burnham, Jeff Brown, Jeff Johnson, Susi Graff, Summer Greene, Bruce Greene, Joanne O'Dea, Team SDYC Race Committee and everyone else who makes this club such a special place for one design sailing. Kudos all! Keep an eye in the lobby this February for this prestigious award on display.
The betting lines, lies, rumors, dock talk and psych out strategies among the Teams has already begun. The Club Champs regatta will be held next weekend (Jan 25-26) in La Playa Cove on the Club's J/22s. Join us on the docks and support your favorite team. Race activities will be based on the Junior Race Dock and the Cruising Fleet will be rafted up in La Playa for viewing. Rumor has it the Cruisers may be well stocked with… well, just about everything, they're cruisers! Scores will be live on monitors throughout the Club. Be a part of the fun. We hope to see you there.
