Greetings!
If not the most fun weekend of the year, this weekend at SDYC is pretty darn close to it. It's Opening Day! Our yachting friends in the MidWest and East are literally chipping away the ice on their boats for the opening day of their respective yachting seasons and here we are running to the store to grab another tube of SPF 40. Heck, my spell checker just helped me spell "ice"! Opening Day SDYC style is just a little different for us.
Our boating season never slows down. The days get a little shorter, and we have to throw a fleece on from time to time, but the bottom line is we can splash our favorite yacht in the bay 365 days per year and leave "life at the speed of Twitter" far, far behind. We can go racing, cruising, angling, day sailing or just horse around with our boats anytime we want. We are so lucky to live in such an incredible place.
Opening Day at SDYC is a little different for all of us. To me, it is a day to celebrate 129 years of rich SDYC history, reflect on our Club's far reaching and unique heritage and recognize the many outstanding accomplishments of our members (and there were quite a few last year). Opening Day is an opportunity to dress ship, see old friends, meet new friends and soak in all "the heaven" that makes SDYC such a very special place for our families and friends.
Huge round of applause and blowing kisses for Julie Servais, Jill and Paul Hartley (sorry Paul, no kisses for you) who worked "their six o'clocks" off to make the 129th Opening Day memorable for all of us. Thank you does not quite say enough you guys. Well done!
We'll see you around the Club this weekend.
