The week of June 16- 21 as the SDYC summer program was beginning, my crew Grace McCarthy and I (Molly Pleskus) were on a plane to Rye, NY to participate in our second US Junior Women’s Doublehanded championship for the Ida Lewis Trophy. This is a national regatta consisting of girls ages 13-18 competing in a three-day regatta prefaced by a two day clinic in C420s. The entire event is coached by amazing US Sailing coaches who work hard to get the best out of each individual sailor. Over this week Grace and I improved immensely and though we didn’t place as well as we feel we could have, we tried our best in a very tricky venue. We had breeze ranging from 0-15+ knots very puffy and shifty sailing on the Long Island sound. We loved all of our coaches, including 5 different college coaches. We sailed out of American Yacht Club and it was stunning! We really enjoyed the trees, deer and wild turkeys, and all of the beautiful old houses around. The regatta results were impressive for all of the Southern California sailors, all of us finished within the top 13 of the 41 boat fleet. Grace and I enjoyed and embraced our last Junior C420 event and plan to take all we have learned on to our college Sailing teams as she sets off The College of Charleston in the fall and I head to Tufts University. Thank you San Diego Yacht Club and our amazing competition fund for allowing us to represent our yacht club in national regattas and enhance our sailing careers.

Thanks You San Diego Yacht Club for your amazing support,
