Vallarta Race Action

By | March 14, 2014

And they're off! Puerto Vallarta 2014 is underway! The start of the 32nd race from SDYC to mainland Mexico – Puerto Vallarta! 23 boats are scheduled to hit the starting line – a fantastic turnout.

Send your favorite PV Team off in style… the PV '14 Race gear is off the charts this year, check it out at the Ship Store. The "starting parties" on Shelter Island are planned for both Friday March 14 and Saturday March 15 starts – first start @ 1155 each day… music, traditional Mexican libations, up-close to the race action, +++ check the PV '14 website for details… THEN follow your favorite PV Team online with YELLOWBRICK all the way to PV. Good luck racers!

Starboard! Proper Course! Room! Overlap! Don't miss the Dave Perry Rules Seminar Thursday, March 20th at 1800 in the Club Room.

Opening Day 2014 our 129th Yachting Season –The Opening Day Dinner Dance is Saturday evening the 12th of April… Sign up now. Trust me, go up a pants size for this one… The menu is off the charts – dancing to Cool Band Luke, "bottomless wine and beer," crazy desserts and all at a ridiculous bargain. Julie Servais has planned a celebration only SDYC can handle. Space is limited first come first served, so make your reservations online. See you on Sunday the 13th for the bands, Flag raisings, cannon shots and ceremony.

Commodore's Dinner Update – You missed a good one this week. As promised, I asked Sean Jenkins President of the San Diego Crew Classic how many collective miles the rowers cover over the April 5-6 weekend during the Classic. He penciled whipped it and found it is way north of the 1,100 each boat going to PV will cover.

The Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta is this weekend @ SDYC. 116 boats and crews are registered as of this morning and all are reported to be sailing with clothes on (Kyle, the CC Rider guys got the memo, right?)… National Offshore One Design (NOOD) regatta travels from city to city around the USA… San Diego is host this weekend. Par for SDYC, we have ordered up epic weather and no doubt the SDYC race management will provide crisp racing for all competitors. Good luck all.

So spring has sprung, and we have moved the clocks forward. Ah yes, the balmy afternoons, the sun's long shards of warm daylight now extending into San Diego's early evening, that sweet smell of summer, a little wine and boats on the bay; it all begins to stir the senses, tickle the imagination and gets a guy to dreaming about… pretty girls in bikinis!… NO, NO, NO, darn it, sorry… summer B-e-e-r C-a-n R-a-c-i-n-g… Beer Can's… coming up in May!

Good sailing,

Chuck Sinks
