It’s been a Finn filled two weeks at the San Diego Yacht Club with back to back Finn regattas: the Finn Pacific Coast Championships (Sept. 15-16) and the Finn Masters North American Championships (Sept. 21-23). This weekend, the Finn Masters North Americans hosted 29 Master Finn sailors (age 40 and over) and 4 Under 40 sailors eager to compete on the beautiful Coronado Roads situated just south of Point Loma which juts out into the blue Pacific Ocean.
San Diego Yacht Club hosted the first of the Finn Trifecta regattas – the Finn Pacific Coast Championships (PCC) this past weekend, September 15-16, 2018. Thirty Finns raced on North Coronado Roads tucked under Point Loma, battling for the championship title.
San Diego Yacht Club and Balboa Yacht Club regret to announce that the Rum Runner Regatta will not be held this year. The event had previously been scheduled to run Saturday, October 27, the weekend prior to the first San Diego Hot Rum, to ideally draw racers from Long Beach/LA to participate in that classic fall race. The reality is that prior participation has been modest at best, and most of the few competitors were San Diego boats trekking up to LA to just enjoy the race south.
All the hard work from the JAC, membership and friends of the junior program working to maintain the excellence of our junior program finally culminated with the Sail 2018 Junior’s Nine-0 Luau last Friday. Tables where decorated with flowers in Tiki Cups, Hula Girls, cans of spam and pineapples capped off by tunes from Ke’Ahi on his ukulele. Great craft beer donated by our friends from Karl Strauss, accompanied roast pig, with all the Hawaiian trimmings.

America's sailing capital saved the best for last, and so did San Diego Yacht Club, which won the 2018 Resolute Cup with error-free sailing when it counted most. With three strong results in the double-points medal round, the team representing the SDYC, skipper Tyler Sinks with crew Nick Martin, Nick Kaschack and Max Hutchinson, moved up the sxcoreboard from fourth, after the preliminary round of 12 races, to win the fifth edition of the Corinthian championship for U.S. yacht clubs.
