It’s never just a boat race. The Pacific Class annual championship is decidedly different from the fleet’s usually genteel once-a-month racing; it’s completely unlike, certainly, the perennial "race" to Coronado for lunch or the non-spinnaker bay runs to get out the families.
Under the direction of Fleet Captain Bennet Greenwald, #18 MINX, a fleet meeting was held at the SDYC to discuss necessary adoption of new Fleet Constitution, By Laws and Specifications.
The month of June, sadly, brought the loss of #21 co-owner Pete Peckham. Pete was a friend to all and always managed to bring a smile to your face. He was a great guy and fleet and SDYC will miss him greatly.
The June One Designs were a hit for the following boats that finished in the order presented: #'s 31, 84, 18, 66 and 9. Max and Pam Phelps were sailing 66. Both Tom Hurlbert and SDYC Commodore Betty Sue both continue to do well with their boats and racing skills.
The annual Kettenburg regatta was sailed for Paul K. It was a lovely day with two PC races.
The PC fleet and owners of all Kettenburg boats lost a friend and supporter. Paul Kettenburg passed on. Shortly before his death, Paul and the rest of the Kettenburg family agreed to hand off all K Boat plans and many records to the San Diego Maritime Museum.
