Masters Regatta Rolex Big Boat Series

Tad Lacey took time to chat with us during the International Masters Regatta to talk about his life of sailing on and off the water.

Tad came down from San Francisco to sail in the regatta. He and host Alli Bell talked about how he got into sailing in Lake Tahoe sailing a sailfish, growing up by SF Bay and the variety of boats he enjoyed sailing in his younger year.

From there, he talked about doing a Big Boat Series in '96, sailing in many San Francisco Yacht Club regattas, racing in San Diego, and raising a family.

Tad talks about his off the water life, specifically race management and volunteering at the Club as well as being Commodore during the America's Cup. Now, Tad sails a J/120 where he enjoys club races, bay races, beer can races, and a bit of ocean sailing.

Tad touches on the rewarding parts of sailing including the community and friends that you make along the way. Finally, Tad gives advice on getting out on the water and how to be successful in sailing.

"There's no substitution for time on the water...go out, make the mistakes, tip over, get wet," he says.
