Its Etchells-mania around SDYC this weekend as we are once again hosting the Etchells Midwinters West regatta, which started today and will continue all weekend. If you are planning to launch your non-Etchells, best time to use the hoist will be Saturday, then Sunday prior to 3:00 PM before the fleet heads back in. Also, please contact security or the dockmasters office before using as we have some temporary safety measures in-place until the rehab job is completed.
Last night was incredible as new SDYC member James Spithill, ORACLE Racing's helmsman shared some terrific insights about the new America's Cup and what can be expected in the coming months. During the program he dropped a bomb on the crowd by announcing that he will host an SDYC junior sailor for a really special weekend in San Francisco. He will fly down to pick the lucky kid up, fly back to Frisco for a ride on the AC-45 catamaran in the bay… VIP all the way. Thanks Jimmy for such a generous offer. We are not sure how the lucky winner will be chosen yet but suffice to say the entire Junior Program will benefit… so stay tuned.
Finally, our Commodore's Luncheon speaker next Wednesday will be Doug Ledsam, Chairman of the SDYC House Committee. I am sure there are one or two of you out there with an opinion on how things can be done better so come down for lunch on Wednesday and share your thoughts!
