Thank God it's Friday! What a week it's been. I'm looking forward to a little relaxation and watching some quality match-racing Downtown. The California Dreamin' Series is in San Diego with top match racing crews from all along the coast for two days of fun. After San Diego, the series moves to Long Beach and San Francisco and this weekend they will be racing our J-22's on the Cityfront course between Anthony's and Island Prime. If you can't come by boat to cheer the local heroes, stop by either restaurant and enjoy the action with a cocktail and appetizer. Racing starts at 11:00 AM Saturday and Sunday.
Mark your calendar for the special "After-Work Edition" of the Commodore's Luncheon on Wednesday. Last month's experiment was terrific, except the room was too small to accommodate the crowd. So next Wednesday we will be downstairs in the Dining Room. Come at 5:30 PM to enjoy a pre-program cocktail and pasta. At 6:30 PM, our speaker from the Seal Team will start with stories about the Seal's activities and recent successes. Despite the rumors, we WILL NOT be blowing stuff up in the parking lot. As always, RSVP ahead of time to allow us to properly set things up and assure that you can eat without undue delay.
Now for something really exciting. James Spithill, ORACLE Racing Skipper and upcoming SDYC member will be speaking at the Club on March 29th (5:00 PM nacho bar and no-host bar, 6:30 - 8:30 PM presentation). His multi-media presentation will bring us up to speed on the current America's Cup activities and serve as a fundraiser for the Jr. Program. Tickets are $25 each, which includes hors d'oeuvres at the bar. For those who missed the America's Cup program last weekend because of the immediate sell-out (and you REALLY missed something, see the photo gallery from the event), don't dawdle and miss this one too!
Speaking of the AC anniversary, this week TV crews were at SDYC again for interviews with our A-Cup players for a special program set for airing this weekend. Tune in to KUSI, Channel 9/51 at 10:00 AM on Sunday to see what they put together... should be great!
