In August, the Finn Fleet suited up for the 2020 Olympic Classes Regatta with (17) Finns on the line from as far away as Missouri and all corners of the West Coast. Sailing conditions were ideal for the Finn class with 6 of the 7 races sailed with the "O" Flag up allowing for unlimited free-pumping downwind. SDYC staff, RC, and volunteers did an excellent job of launching the fleets in pre-determined time slots allowing for plenty of 'social distancing' and a no-wait launching and retrieving times making for very efficient time use.

Saturday the fleet saw (4) races run with veteran Finn sailor Henry Sprague from Long Beach feeling at ease in the 12-15 knot breeze scoring (4) first-place finishes with S/Comm Mike Dorgan close on his heels scoring a 2,2,3,2 to keep it close. Other sailors on Saturday w/ notable finishes include Jr Sailor Matt Dorgan scoring a 2nd in race 2, and Scott Griffiths traveling from Missouri scored a couple of 3rds. On Sunday the same beautiful conditions greeted the fleet with Dorgan winning races #5 and #6 with Sprague scoring a 2,4 setting up the last race showdown for the winner take all with the race for third between Matt Dorgan and Scott Griffiths.

In the end and after a couple attempted starts including a general recall, Sprague got away from the line clean, winning the last race and the regatta with Dorgan finishing 4 pts. behind in 2nd overall and Scott Griffiths rounding off the Podium in 3rd overall. Finn sailors from around the country commented on how great the sailing was and what a fantastic job SDYC did running a spectacular event!

1.) Henry Sprague 7 pts.
2.) Mike Dorgan 11 pts.
3.) Scott Griffin 22 pts.
4.) Matt Dorgan 26 pts.
5.) Roland Fournier 28 pts.
