The recent ILCA 4 Worlds in Vilamoura, Portugal, from August 13-20, 2022 was an amazing experience. It was my second world championship regatta as I also participated in ILCA Worlds in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland last year. The competition was just as strong this year with many talented sailors from 51 countries, including 272 boys and 152 girls who competed. The wind was really good on some days, but not so much on others. It generally picked up later in the afternoon, which made for long days. Being on the Atlantic Ocean, the water was cooler than I expected, but the weather was really hot so it was always refreshing. My results were not as good as I had hoped, but I learned a lot and it was great fun. We had three excellent coaches, including two Olympians - one from France and one from England. They did a great job brining Team USA together throughout the competition and I enjoyed the camaraderie with all my teammates. Thank you to the SDYC Comp Fund for giving me this especially memorable opportunity and, as always, for supporting me with my sailing career. I am very proud and grateful to be a sailor who gets to represent the Club in so many different regattas around the country and the world. Thank you again.
