Fellow Members of San Diego Yacht Club, I am pleased to report that many Members responded to our call for participation at the Semi-Annual Meeting Monday night - filling and over flowing the Club Room. I thank all who attended to consider the important issues affecting the future of SDYC. It is crucial when we consider important issues that a broad cross-section of our diverse membership is actively engaged. We certainly had active engagement Monday night.
Treasurer Chuck Sinks presented a clear and concise report on our sound financial position through the first six months of our fiscal year. He also presented the proposal for the financing of the dredging, refurbishment and eventual replacement of our docks as required to extend our new Port Lease. The proposal had been developed over the last three years by the Marina Evaluation Committee, Port Captain's Committee, Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
There was active participation by many Members - passionate and heartfelt contributions on both sides of the issues. All comments reflected the fundamental that we all cherish SDYC and value all it stands for now and want to make sure the future is bright.
In the end, unfortunately, there was a breakdown in our administrative process and more ballots were voted than voting members signed in - which nullified the votes taken. This was most regrettable and the Board and I can only apologize for the procedural gaffe. It is a missed opportunity to have such a great turnout for a meeting of Members and to have no sense of the membership to show for it.
However, the business of SDYC must move on and the fundamental requirements to dredge, refurbish and replace our docks remain. The Board and I, in consultation with the relevant committees and any members who would like to provide input, will craft a new process and plan. The new process may include a Special Meeting of Members in advance of our December Annual Meeting. The new plan, when presented, will reflect the input received at the Semi-Annual Meeting.
In closing, I am sorry that the Semi-Annual Meeting was inconclusive, but I am thankful for the participation of so many dedicated members and I hope I can count on your continued participation as we resolve the important issues before us.
