On October 20-21, 2012, SDYC won the prestigious Linda Elias Memorial Women’s One Design Championship run by the Long Beach Yacht Club and the Long Beach Sailing Foundation. Eight teams from southern California yacht clubs and sailing organizations participated including the defending champions from Southwest Yacht Club.
Winds were not the typical summer breezes and as the weather system moved north, so did the clouds and drizzle. Saturday winds were 4 - 7 kts with big shifts and a mean direction of 155. It took mucho finesse to push those Catalina 37’s around the course.
After 4 races SDYC was on top of the leader board by 2 points over Cal Yacht Club with Sea Gals in 3rd.
Sunday was tougher. After 2 races there was almost a 4 way tie for 1st place with SWYC, NHYC, CYC, and SDYC. Whoever won that race would win the regatta. So we did!
From wire to wire with 3 WWD LWD’s, the team made no mistakes and sailed beautifully. 2nd place went to SWYC and 3rd to CYC.
Thank you SDYC for supporting the team. It was an honor to represent such a great yacht club and we flew the burgy on our backstay with pride!
