On behalf of the entire SDYC representation at the StFYC invitational, thank you very much for your support. We all had an amazing weekend of racing against the top teams in California, and were very excited to finish with a 10-1 record to take the win.
Saturday began with an early arrival of the sea breeze that lined up some great sailing conditions. The race committee was only able to get a few races in before raising the “T” flag, signifying that spinnakers were no longer permitted. Either way, our team was happy as we had an all-star squad for boat-handling, that just so happen to be extremely underweight. We were going to be a very quick off the breeze no matter what! A lot of our races were won on the very long down winds two-sailing against an ebbing tide.
We completed four round robins before breaking into the “knock out” on Sunday. The prior round robins were used to seed the teams, giving first place an automatic one point advantage in the first to two series. As the number one seed, we faced the scrappy team StFYC in the finals, and walked away with the win in just one race!
From a team that has yet to sail together, we all felt like it was a very strong showing. Walking away with a win against the home team is always rewarding. We look forward to representing SDYC in future team races to come!
Thanks,
Team SDYC (Alex Jacobs, Nick Kashack, Nick Martin, Rick McElvain, George Saunders, Thomas Parry, Tyler Sinks, Nevin Snow and Adam Roberts)
