"Winter" has arrived in San Diego. Batten down the hatches, check your mooring lines, bail out your dry stored boats, and wrap up those roller furlers… word is this is going to be a pretty good one…
Sadly, the storm this weekend forced the Junior Flags to hoist the postponement flag for their J/22 regatta scheduled for Saturday in La Playa Cove. A new date is in the works for later in the year… likely June. I'm sure Junior Flag Chair George Saunders will come up with something fun to occupy the Junior Flag racers over the weekend. Looking forward to seeing the AP coming down on this one and all the Junior Flags back on the water in June.
Have you ever wondered how eight large and incredibly fit people can gingerly step into a very long, very skinny, very sleek high tech boat, break out massive oars, settle into uncomfortable looking sliding seats – and go boating – all the while taking orders barked by a small person in the back… and they accomplish all this with amazing coordination, team work and speed?
Well, on Wednesday the 11th of March @ 1800, we'll get our answer not only to that question, but we will all learn all the inside scoop about what makes the largest regatta in San Diego, the San Diego Crew Classic, work.
The Commodore's Dinner on the 11th will feature Sean Jenkins, President, of the 2014 San Diego Crew Classic as our speaker. You don't want to miss this.
The 41st running of the San Diego Crew Classic, the world's premier spring crew regatta, will be held on April 5th and 6th right here in America's finest city. The event has been called one of San Diego's top 10 iconic events. Over those two days, as many as 4,000 local, national and international athletes will be rowing in more than 100 races with competition amongst High School, Collegiate and Masters Programs.
More than 20,000 spectators will crowd the shores of Crown Point to watch this world-class rowing event with competitors finishing at "ski beach" on Mission Bay… very close to the Sierra Nevada Beer Garden! Now I'm beginning to understand why those 8 strong people climb in that long, skinny and tippy boat…
I'll see you there. Make your reservations today- this will be a sell out!
13 days and counting until the PV Race Kick Off Party. This is going to be an EPIC party! March 13th @ 1800… see the race boats, talk with the crews, see old friends, make new friends, eat great food, listen to music and yes even sip the some fine tequila during a festive send off party -- $10… Believe me you don't want to miss this.
