Steve Natvig won the opening stop of the California Dreamin’ Series, hosted by San Diego Yacht Club on January 9-10. Natvig (Cabrillo Beach YC), a frequent crew for legendary match racer Dave Perry, bested Nicole Breault (St Francis YC) in second and Alex Jacobs (San Diego YC) in third. The Grade 3 event was sailed in J/22s.
We left San Diego headed for Miami on Christmas Night with a plane full of San Diego sailors and parents all headed to Orange Bowl on the red-eye. Leaving the cold of San Diego, it even hailed on the ride to the airport, to join the warm and breezy conditions in Miami, lows in the mid 70's and highs in the 80’s all week.
It is a privilege to be elected by the members of this great San Diego Yacht Club to take the helm as Commodore for 2016. My lovely wife Pam and I are committed to performing the duties this honor bestows and the responsibilities involved in adding to the Club’s reputation as a leader in yachting endeavors.
Starting with the Kris Kringle Regatta on Saturday morning - it looked for a while as if it might be a light wind day, but sure enough, around noon the westerly filled in and then it was game on! Congratulation to Andy La Dow and crew Jake La Dow and Max Hutchinson on MoFo (USA 985) for a flawless regatta.

The 2015 Hot Rum Series kicked off on November 7th with a picture perfect San Diego day; sunny skies and winds around 7-10 knots with gusts up to 15. A Southeast breeze called for spinnakers at the start.
