If Scott Sinks and Rebecca McElvain weren’t already on your list of young sailors to watch out for, the Yacht Racing Union of Southern California is making sure that they are now. Together, Sinks and McElvain are an unstoppable pair.

Hosted by the Junior Board, the Junior Invitational Regatta is one of SDYC’s strongest and longest-running traditions.

This past weekend, 17 SDYC junior sailors made their way up the coast to the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, where they represented SDYC at the 2014 Turkey Day Regatta. The annual regatta featured nearly 300 sailors competing in 21 classes.

Congratulations to SDYC's James Spithill for winning the ISAF Rolex Male Sailor of the Year, awarded in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

SDYC's Jake La Dow will team up with Chris Raab at the US Sailing Championship of Champions, sailed in Thistles this year on Lake Erie. All helmsmen have qualified for this event by winning a 2013 or 2014 one-design class National, North American, or World Champ.

The final day of the U.S. Team Racing Championship ended up being a half day of sailing due to a complete wind shutdown. However, the fleet completed enough races to count Gold Round Robin 3 and crown Ladies and Gentlemen as the back-to-back Team Racing Champions.

Paul Didham spent the summer competing in a number of championship regattas around the country including the Laser Nationals, Chubb US Junior Sailing Champs, and the Youth Champs.

The US Youth Championship regatta is hosted every year in August. To be able to compete in this event you must fill out an application with all of your top results. My crew, Charlie Miller, and I [Andy Reiter] were lucky enough to be accepted into the US Youth Championships in the Club 420 class.
