SDYC Member Paris Henken & crew Helena Scutt qualify for 2016 Olympic Games in 49erFX Women’s Skiff

Paris Henken and Helena Scutt became the first members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Sailing Team after winning the 49erFX Olympic selection series in Miami and Clearwater, FL.


2016 Vallarta Race is set to send 21 teams to Mexico

Starting February 19, teams will gather in San Diego to start the 2016 Vallarta Race, the 32nd running of the international sailboat race from San Diego Bay to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This biennial event features some of the fastest boats and ocean sailors in the sport and continues to provide the rare opportunity to race from the US, beyond Baja, to the Mexican mainland.


SCYA Midwinters with J/70, J/80, J/120, Ben 36.7 Fleets

SDYC hosted the SCYA Midwinters on February 13 &14 in the Coronado Roads off of Point Loma. Over the two days, J/70s, J/80s, J/120s and Beneteau 36.7s participated in five races. The weather was ideal- sunny and mid-70s with above average speeds of 14-15 kts at the start of the first race.


Paul Didham at the 2015 Orange Bowl

The 2015 Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta was held at the US Sailing Center in Miami. Over the four day regatta Miami delivered; each day brought constant 14 to 18 knots of breeze.  I was competing in the Laser Standard class.


Baby Fleet Wins the Club Championship

Winter blizzard Jonas may have buried the East Coast with mounds of snow last weekend, but the sun was shining in La Playa for the 5th annual Club Championships. This year’s event featured close, competitive racing for the 15 teams participating, making for an energized weekend of sailing!


70+ Boats Compete on New Years Day in San Diego Bay

2016 New Year's Day landed in between stormy weather systems rolling down the coast and offered up refreshing sunny weather with scattered clouds. The wind forecasts were all over the place, with a light westerly breeze 5 kts to 7 kts showing itself around noon, just in time for a 1230 warning signal.
