Etchells Worlds Clean Regattas standards were communicated in print and at four Club events prior to the Regatta. Regatta Chair and Green Team members interfaced with Club staff to meet standards.
San Diego has been anticipating this week’s Etchells World Championship with a year-long series of competitive sailing battles off the shores of Point Loma California.
The 2011 Etchells World Championship regatta was constructed as a 9 race series with one throwout score. USA and San Diego Yacht Club’s Bill Hardesty, Steve Hunt, Mandi Markee and Craig Leweck needed only 8 races to secure the World Championship title.
On Day 4 of the 2011 Etchells World Championship regatta in San Diego, CA, one race was scheduled at the regular 1200 warning signal time. However the race didn't actually get started until 1241 thanks to three General Recalls.
The Sailing Instructions call for 9 races over the 6 days of racing, and the Race Committee has managed to put 6 races in the books already. The conditions again on Wednesday for Race Day #3 were excellent for Championship level sailing.
With 2 firsts on Monday, it looked as though Hardesty could breeze into his 2nd world championship but the combination of experience and patience has been paying dividends for Brun and tactician, Ben Mitchell, both America’s Cup experienced sailors.
