This past weekend, champion Vince Brun is walking away from the Bill Bennett Cup with a lot more than just his first place finish. Brun and Bennett sailed together to win the Etchells World Championship in 2000, and for Brun, this regatta is a sentimental one.
A local San Diego sailor has put together the sailing distances and time required for a trip out to Catalina Island (Mission Bay, Two Harbors, Avalon, Dana Point, Oceanside, etc). For sailors planning a trip out to the Northern Channel Islands, there is another link detailing the journey out to Smugglers Cove on Santa Cruz Island.
The Race Committee (RC) lies at the core of our sport yet many sailors give it little thought. Participation in race management is a great instrument for excelling in sailing, which subsequently promotes an overall increase in the competitive level and standardization of sailboat racing.
If Scott Sinks and Rebecca McElvain weren’t already on your list of young sailors to watch out for, the Yacht Racing Union of Southern California is making sure that they are now. Together, Sinks and McElvain are an unstoppable pair.
Thanks to Patricia Lapadula for A Day in the Life video for the San Diego Yacht Club Race Committee, filmed during the January One Design Weekend.
Congratulations to Bill Hardesty, Chuck Sinks and Al Pleskus on their decisive victory at the 3rd annual SDYC Club Championship regatta.
