Scott Sinks at the Morgan Cup Team Race

By Scott Sinks | August 24, 2021

It was great to get back out east for the 2021 Morgan Cup Hosted by New York Yacht Club. After a year Hiatus from the team race circuit, it was refreshing to see familiar faces and do some keel boat team racing. Having not team raced in a regatta in over a year the first day of racing saw some cobwebs getting removed from team SDYC. The first two days saw challenging conditions ranging from 2 knots to 22 knots and spinnakers being removed from racing Saturday afternoon. SDYC hovered around .500 for the two rounds robin rounds.

Devon Owen at the Youth Worlds Lake Garda

By Devon Owen | August 19, 2021

With over 375 youth sailors from all over the world and six different fleets, it was spectacular to see that many lasers in one place. Garda itself is a venue of pure natural beauty. After practicing in the north winds (traditional for Garda) for nearly a week, on regatta day the wind was light and shifty and coming from the south.

Finn Pacific Coast Championship and North American Masters Championship Take San Diego Back to Back Weekends

By Casey Allocco, SDYC Communications Coordinator | August 13, 2021

San Diego, CA (August 13, 2021) If you’re looking for a fleet with both fierce competition on the water and a whole lot of fun off the water, look no further than San Diego’s Finn Fleet. San Diego’s Finn Fleet has remained one of the more active fleets in the past year considering they’re single-handed, and the fleet’s natural camaraderie has kept the racers coming back for more. This September, over 40 Finn sailors return to the San Diego Yacht Club for two exciting events: the Pacific Coast Championship and the North American Masters Championship.

Thank you so much for supporting me to compete in the ILCA Radial Youth World Championship in Circolo Vela Arco, Italy. It was an amazing experience. We raced for six days. There were 40 countries represented with 374 sailors. I was one of six girls from the USA.

The Peruvian Brothers, Giuseppe and Mario Lanzone, joined us on the San Diego Yacht Club Sailcast the weekend of the World Avocado Cup to talk about their backgrounds on the water, their business in the food industry, their involvement in Avocado’s from Peru, and of course, the World Avocado Cup.

Jack Egan at the US Youth Match Racing Champs

By Jack Egan | July 29, 2021

In the last week of June, fellow SDYC member Jack Plavan, and MBYC members Diego Escobar and Marianna Shand, and I took a trip across the country to Rochester, New York, to compete for the U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship, known as the Rose Cup. None of us had ever been to Rochester and we were excited to compete in our first U.S. Sailing Championship since the pandemic.
