At the Sailing Leadership Forum Awards Dinner, hosted by the San Diego Sports Hall of Fame, San Diego Yacht Club was recognized as the One Design Club of the Year for outstanding organizational achievements in training, community and one-design sailing.
The U.S. Sailing Leadership Forum is officially underway at the Hilton Hotel, Mission Bay. Leading up to the Forum there has been a flurry of activity at the Club, with various U.S. Sailing certification programs being held as sailors from across the country are flocking to San Diego to escape the cold and attend the Forum. SDYC will be well represented at the Forum with over 15 members participating in various capacities, with many presenting at the conference.
After a year off from active snipe sailing due to pregnancy, I [Stacey Szabo] jumped back in a boat and participated in the 2013 Womens Snipe Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. I was able to sail with experienced snipe crew Julia Melton.
On Christmas day, Rebecca McElvain and Scott Sinks traveled to Miami Florida to compete in the 2013 Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta. This was our first major regatta sailing together in C420s, so we were excited to test our skills against the country.
It feels like we should be on a mooring in Catalina, sitting on the hook in La Playa, or lathered up in sunscreen with the Junior Summer Program in full swing… only problem is, it's JANUARY 17th! Sneak out of the office, blow-off the yard work do whatever you need to do and head down to the Club.
If you missed the NYE party, you missed a good one. Great band, excellent food, casino games, a (very popular) "scotch lounge" - loads of people, good friends, dancing and a great time had by all.
