Jack Reiter was the winner of a contest at SDYC (raffle drawing based on number of sailing days this summer) to fly up to San Francisco and sail with Oracle Skipper Jimmy Spithill. Congrats Jack!
On August 14th, my crew and I [Scott Sinks], Chris Ford of Richmond yacht club teamed up, and flew to Portland Oregon to compete on the Columbia River Gorge which was the venue of the 2012 U.S. Youth Championship.
The 2012 Chubb U.S. Double Handed Championship held out of SFYC was an amazing experience, and getting to sail in the Berkley Circle, which had strong current, heavy breeze, and big chop made it an experience I [Scott Sinks] won't ever forget.
The first day of the regatta it was 14-18 knots with very strong currents. The first day we were very conservative and consistent. We ended the day with a 4, 8, 7, 4 placing us in a respectable third place overall.
The 2012 Youth Championship was set up to be a regatta to remember. The regatta was held at the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, which is known to be one of the windiest venues in the country.
Dennis Conner rang the bell a the NY Stock Exchange this morning. I don't know how he scored that gig but good on ya DC!
