This is also our last free weekend before the J/105's invade our Club for a month's worth of racing and parties. Count them… four biggies. So. Cal Championships, North American Championships, the International Master's Regatta and then the Lipton Cup as our finale.
Sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 70s and breezes 8-18 knots welcomed Beneteau Cup 2012 participants at San Diego Yacht Club the last weekend of September.
The 2012 PC Nationals saw 7 boats at the line. Winds were light with a max of about 12k. Early fog and light winds delayed the starts a bit. Congratulations to #31 and crew for being the 2012 PC Champs!
#50 is up for sale. She is in good shape with no sisters and several new ribs. The garboards and 2 other strakes and 10 planks have been replaced. She suffered a lower shroud failure and a mast break, but has been completely repaired.
On September 11th, SDYC Service Member and head of the Naval Medical Center San Diego (aka Balboa Naval Hospital), Rear Admiral Forrest Faison provided a co-ed audience with a presentation that was both informative and inspirational.
Every three years, the Club Leaders Forum conducts a survey with the General Managers of every club belonging to the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). The survey results are used to compile a list of the 235 most highly regarded private clubs (country clubs, residential communities, golf clubs, dining clubs, athletic clubs, and yacht clubs) in the United States. The Top 5 Yacht Clubs according to the survey, in order, are St. Francis Yacht Club, New York Yacht Club, Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, San Diego Yacht Club, and Annapolis Yacht Club.
