San Diego and its yacht clubs are fertile ground for sailing champions, but rarely do they get the chance to join the big leagues as early as Jake La Dow and Jake Reynolds, two 19-year-old SDYC competitors selected to sail for the U.S. at the first Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
The three race Hot Rum series came to a close on the first day of December with Scot Tempesta on his Flying Tiger 10m “Anarchy” finishing on top of the 130 boat fleet. Competitors enjoyed sunny and warm ‘winter’ sailing conditions around the 11.9 miles random leg, pursuit race course located off Point Loma.
ORACLE TEAM USA announced two U.S.-based teams to earn a spot in the final of the Red Bull Youth America's Cup. Three of SDYC's college sailors, Nevin Snow, Jake La Dow, and Jake Reynolds have been selected as sailors on one of the teams.

In early October, The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC) hosted the 2012 RVYC Match Race Invitational with ten teams representing four countries (Canada, United States, Australia and Denmark).

The third event in the J/105 Fall Series 2012 was the International Masters Regatta held at SDYC November 2 - 4, 2012. The prestigious regatta was established in 1979 at St. Francis Yacht Club by Don Trask in honor of his father.
October was a busy month for sailboat racing in San Diego. While the rest of the country slowly slips into Fall, we were out racing.
On October 20-21, 2012, SDYC won the prestigious Linda Elias Memorial Women’s One Design Championship run by the Long Beach Yacht Club and the Long Beach Sailing Foundation.
